Nia celebrates the resilient and powerful spirit of women farmers in developing markets 

Coffee Planet, Dubai’s leading home-grown coffee roastery have partnered with Nia, a brand celebrating the resilient and powerful spirit of women farmers in developing markets. Sourcing coffee beans direct from the farms, Nia harvests and trade coffee to uplift the farming communities.  

In-line with International Women’s Day Coffee Planet have produced a limited-edition bag of single-origin Ethiopian coffee beans and biodegradable coffee capsules in partnership with Nia. Coffee Planet are committed to sustainability, with the company still the only UTZ certified roaster in the UAE, making this tie-up with Nia part of an evolving strategy and long-term commitment to greener initiatives.

Cleia Junqueira, Coffee Planet’s Head of Coffee worked closely with the founder of Nia to develop and fine tune the product. By purchasing a bag of Nia – Coffee Planet beans you can play an active role in empowering women farmers in developing markets evolve their businesses and build their communities. 

Cleia comments: “We are delighted to have developed this product with Nia, a company making a valuable contribution to sustainability in the coffee industry. This is one of the many green projects Coffee Planet are embracing and engaging with as a business, but it is particularly timely in-line with International Women’s Day. We are proud to make a small contribution towards supporting underrepresented female farmers in the industry.” 

An organization committed to investing back into farming communities by funding high-impact solutions to increase revenue and create employment, Nia sources its artisanal coffee beans directly from the farms by establishing a mutually beneficial, long-term and sustainable relationship with the farmers. Nia also funds a Technical Assistance program that helps the farmers progressively replace less productive plants and provides access to other inputs such as fertiliser and equipment.

Assia Riccio, Founder of Nia, comments “Nia is built on a profound vision to build a community of female farmers, giving them the opportunity to make their products directly available to consumers. This initiative is helping create stable market access for a large group of smallholder farmers, whilst paying them a premium above Fair Trade price for the crops.”
